How to Make a Fire

Make a Cooking Fire

In deep snow you may have to make a platform for your fire. If you do not use a platform, the snow under and around the fire will melt and your fire will lower itself into the snow.

Different Cooking Fires

The illustration above shows different ways to cook over a campfire. You should notice that rocks and logs are used to support the cooking utensils.

A Heat Reflector

A heat reflector made of logs will keep you warm. The sleeping area should be 180 degrees from the reflector.
